Kyle Dubas Is Not Done Making Changes to Penguins Roster

The Pittsburgh Penguins could be a completely different team by the time the 2023-24 season begins.

Should the Pittsburgh Penguins be "all in" on a championship run in the 2023-24 season?

Kyle Dubas has been the president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins for just over a month and the organization is already much different from the way he found it.

In the matter of a month, the Penguins have seen multiple people leave their front office with other names like Jason Spezza arrive.

With the first few days of free agency in the books, Dubas has continued to leave his finger print on the roster.

In the last week, Dubas has acquired Reilly Smith in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights nad made multiple signings for the Penguins’ depth.

Still on Dubas’ radar is three-time Norris Trophy winning defenseman Erik Karlsson.

The Penguins have been talking with Karlsson and have been attempting to get a deal done for about a week, but the chances continue to slim as the days go on and Dubas adds other defensemen to the roster.

Since the opening of free agency, Dubas has inked Ryan Graves, Ryan Shea, and Will Butcher to bolster both the NHL and AHL blue lines.

Despite the slim odds, Dubas has not stopped his pursuit; even if the Penguins don’t land Karlsson, Dubas won’t stop making improvements to the roster.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Dubas has more on his agenda than chasing Karlsson.

Dubas said in a media availability that anytime a player of Karlsson’s caliber becomes available, it’s safe to assume the Penguins will be involved.

The Penguins still have to sort out solutions with Mikael Granlund and Jeff Petry and their contracts.

No matter what happened with the Penguins and Karlsson, Dubas won’t be done making big changes to the organization.
