The Pittsburgh Penguins newest super star has landed and is ready to battle for the Stanley Cup.
The newest member of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization has officially made it to the Steel City and is ready to compete with his new teammates.
Erik Karlsson was a target for the Penguins from the moment Kyle Dubas was hired as president of hockey operations, and after a long wait, a trade was finally made.
The three-time Norris Trophy winner arrived in Pittsburgh and was given a tour of the team’s practice facility where he met up with a former teammate of his.
When Karlsson began his career with the Ottawa Senators, one of the organization’s leaders, and captain in 2013-14, was Jason Spezza; Karlsson took over the Senators' captain in 2014-15.
One of Dubas’ first hires with the Penguins brought Spezza in as an assistant general manager; while Spezza didn’t try and sway Karlsson to join the Penguins, he was the first one to greet him in Pittsburgh.
Karlsson says he didn’t have a ‘preferred’ destination but is excited to join the Penguins and compete for a Stanley Cup.
Much like Dubas, Karlsson believes his addition can help the team contend for another deep playoff run.
