After two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Danton Heinen has a new opportunity back with one of his former teams.
The Boston Bruins have signed the former Penguins forward to a professional tryout offer.
It’s not yet a full NHL deal, but Heinen will have an opportunity to make the Bruins roster and continue his career at the NHL level.
Heinen struggled this past season with the Penguins putting up just 22 points (8G-14A) in 65 games.
In his first season in Pittsburgh, however, the Penguins saw a much more impressive side of Heinen as he scored 33 total points (18G-15A) in 76 games plated.
Heinen saw play all over the Penguins’ lineup from a depth winger role to playing alongside Sidney Crosby on the first line in the early stages of the season.
The Bruins are the team that drafted Heinen in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2014 Draft and where he played his first 220 career games.
During his time with the Bruins, Heinen recorded 103 points, with a career high 47 in his rookie season.
After floating around as a free agent all summer, Heinen has another chance at the big league.
