Sidney Crosby’s Performance Will Determine Penguins’ Success

According to an insider, the Pittsburgh Penguins will only go as far as Sidney Crosby can take them.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could get more production from playing Jeff Carter in a lesser role.

It goes without saying, but there is a lot riding on the 2023-24 season for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the fortunes of the team may fall on the shoulders of one guy.

Despite all the work put in by Fenway Sports Group to hire Kyle Dubas as president and general manager, then all of Dubas’ work to revamp the Penguins roster, it might all be for nothing if Sidney Crosby is not at the top of his game.

That’s what Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli says on the most recent DFO Rundown when discussing the Penguins and Crosby’s over/under for goals.

Seravalli took the over that has been set at 31.5, but believes the teams’ success will ride on Crosby’s performance.

Even with Erik Karlsson added to the fold, if Crosby isn’t performing to the best of his abilities, the Penguins won’t go anywhere.

The addition of Karlsson was meant to not only boost the offense from the defense and add another star player to the roster, but also take some of the pressure off of the core’s shoulders.

Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang should all carry less weight knowing they have another elite level talent on the roster in Karlsson.

Even with the star power, however, it’ll be up to the captain to determine just how good the Penguins are this year.

At the age of 36, there will be questions all season long regarding Crosby’s ability, leadership, and health.

If Crosby can stay healthy, then he shouldn’t have any problem leading the Penguins through his skill that doesn’t seem to have taken a dip just yet.
