The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to add to their front office under Kyle Dubas.
As the offseason officially begins for all 32 teams around the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins have added to their front office.
The Penguins have hired Jason Spezza as assistant general manager after working in a similar role with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On the same day the Maple Leafs decided not to renew the contract of Kyle Dubas, Spezza resigned from the organization after just one season.
The Penguins later hired Dubas as their president of hockey operations, and he got to work right away on building the team in his image.
When Dubas was hired in Pittsburgh, Spezza was immediately brought up as someone who could follow.
According to the Penguins, Spezza will report directly to Dubas and assist club management in all hockey operations departments.
-"After a decorated playing career, Jason fully immersed himself on the management side of the game learning all facets of hockey operations this past season while with Toronto," said Dubas. "He showed tremendous work ethic, curiosity, and ability to build relationships throughout all departments at the team facility. His move from the roster to the front office staff also helped make the hockey operations department, coaching staff and playing roster a more cohesive and collaborative unit. We are thrilled to have Jason join the Pittsburgh Penguins today as he will add a great perspective to our Club, and we are excited to watch him reach his potential in management."
Spezza played 19 years in the NHL and recorded 995 points (363G-632A) in 1,248 games.
2023-24 will be Spezza’s second season working in an NHL front office.
The Penguins still have a vacancy at the general manager role, but Dubas stated he will handle that position in the interim.
