Evgeni Malkin made sure to congratulate a former Pittsburgh Penguins teammate on his third championship title.
When Phil Kessel was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he and Evgeni Malkin had one of the best love/hate relationships on the team.
While they would openly bicker on the Penguins bench during games, they knew it was each other’s competitive nature taking over.
Off of the ice, Kessel and Malkin seemed to be pretty close pals and still keep a connection to this day.
Kessel has since become a member of the Vegas Golden Knights who just won their first Stanley Cup title.
While it’s the Golden Knights’ first championship, it’s Kessel’s third, and Malkin chose a hilarious way to honor an old friend.
Malkin took to Instagram to post an awkward photo of Kessel taken back in Pittsburgh, but with three Stanley Cups edited in.
One Cup in each of Kessel’s hands and a third above his head.
The photo was posted to Malkin’s Instagram Story and the Cups have some sparkle to them.
Kessel didn’t appear in any games during the Stanley Cup Final, but did play all 82 games of the regular season.
Former Penguins forward Teddy Blueger is also part of the Cup winning Golden Knights team.
