The Pittsburgh Penguins were one of many to honor Stan Savran following his death.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the many local sports teams, athletes, and personalities who were touched by the life and work of broadcaster Stan Savran.
At the age of 76, Savran passed away and the Penguins were among those to make a statement following his death.
In the tweet sent out late Monday night, the Penguins called Savran ‘a friend and true professional at his craft.’
Savran, a Cleveland native, came to Pittsburgh in the late 1970s and became known as one of the best and most popular voices in Pittsburgh sports.
Throughout his broadcast and reporting career, Savran was on top of some of the biggest stories in Pittsburgh sports.
That includes being one of the first to report that Penguins’ legend Mario Lemieux was coming out of retirement to play again in 2000.
Lemieux made his own statement on Savran’s passing calling him ‘one of the best to ever do it.’
