Penguins Legend To Play 35th Year of Pro Hockey
Before the Pittsburgh Penguins used their fifth overall pick in the 1990 NHL Draft to take Jaromir Jagr, he had already played professional hockey in his homeland of Czechoslovakia.
Jagr went on to play the next 11 years in the NHL with the Penguins becoming one of the greatest players to ever lace up skates.
Even following his departure from Pittsburgh, Jagr went on to play another 13 seasons in the NHL plus a few years in the KHL.
Jagr hasn’t played a game on NHL ice since 2017, but he is still kicking around professional hockey.
For the last handful of seasons, Jagr has played with the Kladno Knights of the Czech Extraliga.
With new seasons opening around the world, Jagr announced that he would return for year 35 and continue playing at the age of 51.
Jagr’s speed and skill may not be at the level they were at in his prime, but he is still skating at his advanced age and producing at a respectable rate.
In 26 games played with Kladno in 2022-23, Jagr recorded 14 total points.
It’s important for the Penguins and their fans to keep an eye on Jagr’s intention to continue playing at a professional level.
Jagr is due to have his No. 68 retired by the Penguins but he wants to be officially retired from the sport before any ceremony can take place.

Jagr's continued participation is also why he is yet to find his name enshrined forever as a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
