The Pittsburgh Penguins will be forced to play without Jeff Petry for the second game in a row.

For the second consecutive game, the Pittsburgh Penguins will finish without defenseman Jeff Petry.

In just his third shift, Petry took an elbow to the face from New York Rangers’ forward Tyler Motte forcing the Penguins to finish the game without a full compliment of defenders.

It isn’t clear why Petry left the contest against the Montreal Canadiens, but he did not take the ice after the second intermission.

Petry and Jan Rutta both left the game against the Canadiens early and the Penguins had to finish with only four defensemen.

Despite not finishing against the Canadiens, both Petry and Rutta were on the ice for the morning skate in New York.

In Petry’s three shifts, he played 1:34 of ice time and recorded a hit.

Motte was not penalized from the elbow and later left the ice himself with an injury.
