The greatest goalie in Pittsburgh Penguins history won't consider his future until the end of the season.
Through the first 13 years of Marc-Andre Fleury’s career, he grew into the greatest goalie in Pittsburgh Penguins franchise history.
Now, setting up to enter his 20th season in the NHL, the all-time Penguins’ great is nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career.
Could the 2023-24 season with the Minnesota Wild be the final one for Fleury?
When asked about if he’s thought about the future, Fleury said he won’t consider anything until the season is over.
“I just want to make it through and make a decision at the end,” Fleury said.
While he is aware that every season has it’s ups and downs, Fleury is aiming for as successful of a season as possible with the Wild.
Fleury sits just 15 games shy of 1,000 in his career and seven wins behind Patrick Roy for second all time in NHL history.
Both are achievements that can be hit with ease this season.
“We’ll see how it goes, physically, mentally,” Fleury said. “If I can still stop a puck. Just make a decision at the end.”
Fleury is entering the final year of his contract and will be a huge piece to the success of the Wild this season.
Whether he is his playing as the starter or in a tandem role with former Penguins’ draft pick Filip Gustavsson, Fleury will have a big decision to make at the end of the year.
