Despite reports, the Pittsburgh Penguins are likely not going to trade for Brock Boeser.
Fans across the NHL are being treated to a week full of trade rumors and moves ahead of the deadline and the Pittsburgh Penguins have their own role to play in the antics.
It’s being reported that the Penguins are still heavily involved in trying to land defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes, but there are more possibilities.
There have been reports flying around that Ron Hextall has been in conversation with the Vancouver Cancuks about multiple players.
It was slowly revealed that the Canucks came to the Penguins with the possibility of a deal involving Pittsburgh area-native J.T. Miller; others stated that talks have also circled around Brock Boeser.
Rob Rossi of the Athletic reported and told the Tip of the Ice-Burgh Podcast that a source from both teams have stated that Boeser is unlikely to land in Pittsburgh.
As for Miller, Rossi states that the Canucks spurred the conversations and after an initial balk from Hextall, the discussions have continued.
Miller’s contract situation is likely what caused Hextall’s hesitation; Miller makes $5.25 million this season, but has a new, seven-year contract worth $8 million annually that starts next year.
Boeser’s deal sits at $6.65 for the remainder of this year and the two following.
According to Rossi, the Penguins might have more focus on Chychrun at the moment, but things can change in a hurry.
