The Pittsburgh Penguins are closing in on their 17th consecutive playoff birth.
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins once had less than a 1% chance at making the postseason, but after a win over the Washington Capitols and losses by the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers in regulation, the team is nearing the definite spot in the playoffs.
As of now, the Penguins sit at the top of the wild card race - which is coming down to three teams. Midweek, Pittsburgh had roughly a 40% chance of making the playoffs. After a successful weekend, they're now looking at an 82.2% chance, according to MoneyPuck.
The Penguins have eight regular season games remaining and currently hold a three-point lead over the Panthers. Florida currently has a 32.4% chance of making the playoff, according to MoneyPuck.
If Pittsburgh pulls off another postseason push, they'll make the dance for the 17th consecutive season.
