The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned Dustin Tokarski back to the AHL.
PITTSBURGH - After serving a game as backup goalie during on an emergency recall, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned Dustin Tokarski.
Tokarski was recalled after the Penguins announced Tristan Jarry was going to miss time with a lower-body injury.
It was unclear how long Jarry would be out and head coach Mike Sullivan announced that Casey DeSmith woud start against the Washington Capitals.
While DeSmith was the confirmed starter, Sullivan said his backup goalie was a game-time decision.
When warmups started, the two goalies were DeSmith and Jarry and that was shortly before the official re-assignment of Tokarski was announced.
The Penguins have nine games remaining after their battle with the Capitals and are going to need the best out of whoever is in net.
