As the IIHF World Championship tournament reaches its final days, there is only one Pittsburgh Penguins player left in contention for a gold medal.
Team Canada defeated Latvia to advance to the gold medal game with Penguins’ defender P.O. Joseph on the blue line.
Joseph has only recorded a goal through the tournament but is a plus-5 rating as Team Canada looks for their 28th gold medal in the tournament’s history.
Canada will take on Germany who defeated Team USA in overtime; the United States team feature three Penguins including goalie Casey DeSmith and forwards Nick Bonino and Drew O’Connor.
Bonino served in the tournament as USA’s captain and will take on Latvia in the bronze medal game.
Former Penguins prospect Frederik Tiffels scored on DeSmith in overtime to secure Germany’s spot in the championship match.
Team USA had a perfect run until their loss to Germany featuring a pair of shutouts from DeSmith.
