The Pittsburgh Penguins promoted multiple faces within their newly structured front office.
What happened with the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager search? Well, now on an official basis, Kyle Dubas will hold two roles.
The Penguins announced promotions for multiple front office officials and the biggest one has to be naming Dubas the president of hockey operations and general manager.
Dubas stated that he would take general manager duties on an interim basis upon being hired.
Andy Saucier, Erik Heasley, Amanada Kessel, and Trevor Daily were also among those officially promoted to various positions.
Dubas stated that he is taking over as general manager for the sake of continuity and will revisit the search for a separate general manager at a later date.
-“At this time, I feel it is best for continuity that I formally continue in both roles as President and General Manager in the hockey operations department,” Dubas said. “We will continue to reevaluate the GM position alongside all others in future off-seasons, to ensure that we are optimizing all facets of the department. We have a small but extremely dedicated management team here, and I have come to know each of them quite well over the last couple of months.
Saucier has been promoted to director of professional personnel and is entering his 12th season with the Penguins and second in the front office; Saucier was previously the teams’ video coach for over a decade.
Heasley has been promoted to the director of minor league and amateur scouting operations; already the general manager of the WBS Penguins, Heasley will now oversee all facets of the AHL and ECHL (Wheeling Nailers) organizations.
While nothing was previously official, it was reported that Kessel was promoted to special assistant to the president and general manger.
The Penguins announcement made the move official.
Kessel will be involve in all facets of hockey operations; Daley was promoted to the same role and both will report directly to Dubas.
Previous to his promotion, Daley spent the last three seasons as the Penguins’ hockey operations advisor.
