After struggling to remain consistent in the lineup, the Pittsburgh Penguins have sent Alex Nylander back to the AHL.
PITTSBURGH - After being a healthy scratch for eight consecutive games, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned Alex Nylander to the AHL.
The25-year-old forward impressed in his first couple of outings with the Penguins, especially in the top-six, but he struggled to remain consistent.
In his six games of NHL action, Nlyander only recorded one assist and eight total shots on goal.
Nylander averaged over 13 minutes of ice per game, but wasn’t producing at a level to stick with the lineup.
In his 54 AHL games this season, Nylander has scored 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points.
Nylander being sent back to the AHL likely signifies that an injured Penguins skater is likely nearing a return.
The Penguins have been without forward Nick Bonino and defensemen Marcus Pettersson, Dmitry Kulikov, and Jan Rutta for a couple of weeks now.
Rutta is the only injured player currently not on long-term injured reserve.
Head coach Mike Sullivan also stated that each of those players should be back with the team before the regular season ends.
