Alex Nylander has been one of the AHL's best players this year and the Pittsburgh Penguins finally given him a call.

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Alex Nylander from the AHL on an emergency basis.

Along with the move to recall Nylander, Penguins’ forward Ryan Poehling was placed on long-term injured reserve with a retroactive date of February 14.

Poehling has been dealing with an upper-body injury and he continues to see drawbacks in his progression back to the lineup.

Nylander has spent all season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and has recorded 50 points with a clean 25 goals and assists.

50 points is good for the most on WBS and fifth in the entire AHL.

General manager Ron Hextall said on multiple occasions that Nylander has been impressing this season with WBS and it seemed like only a matter of time before he would once again reach the NHL.

In 84 career games played in the NHL, Nylander has scored 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points.

Since the recall was from emergency basis, that means the Penguins didn't have a fully-healthy roster.
