For the 18th straight season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are being led by their captain, Sidney Crosby.
For nearly two decades, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been led by one of the greatest players to ever play the game of hockey.
The Penguins drafted Sidney Crosby first overall in 2005 and ever since, he has been one of the NHL’s premier stars.
Despite being 35-years-old, Crosby is showing no signs of slowing down, and that is being highlighted with his most recent milestone.
With an assist against the New York Rangers, Crosby notched his 82nd point of the 2022-23 season, giving him his 18th point-per-game season.
Only Wayne Gretzky accumulated more point-per-game season in NHL history with 19.
2022-23 is Crosby’s 18th season in the NHL meaning he has never played a season at under a point-per-game pace, even with the amount of injuries he’s suffered.
In 1,176 games played in the NHL, Crosby is closing in on 1,492 (546G-946A), second most in Penguins’ history and 15th all-time.
In Crosby’s 18-year career, the lowest amount of points recorded for a single season was 37 in 22 games in 2011-12.
If Crosby can keep up this pace for the remainder of his career, there is no telling what kind of records he may set.
It’s looking good that he will pass Gretzky for most point-per-game seasons and Crosby is closing in on top-10 in all-time scoring.
