The Pittsburgh Penguins have jumped all over a depth forward to start free agency.
As the doors opened on the NHL free agency period, the Pittsburgh Penguins jumped right away for a depth forward.
First reported by Darren Dreger, Matt Nieto has signed with the Penguins with a two-year contract worth $900,000 per season.
When noon hit, it was initially reported that Nieto was heading to the Edmonton Oilers, but things changed within seconds.
Kyle Dubas and the Penguins swooped in and stole Nieto with an extrememly team friendly deal.
Nieto is a 30-year-old winger who will play in the Penguins’ bottom-six and is coming off of a season where he played 81 games and recorded 24 points (12G-12A).
In 651 career games, Nieto has posted 85 goals and 114 assists for 199 total points.
