One of the top prospects in the Pittsburgh Penguins pipeline is making progress towards the NHL.
Just a day after signing an ATO with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, goalie prospect Joel Blomqvist has signed an entry level deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
According to the Penguins, the deal will start with the 2023-24 season and run for three years.
Blomqvist is a 21-year-old netminder who just finished up a season with Karpat of his native Finland’s Liiga.
In 45 career games in Liiga, Blomqvist picked up a record of 14-9-12 with a 1.92 goals against average and .917 save percentage.
Blomqvist is not only the Penguins organization’s top goalie prospect, but one of the top prospects in the entire pipeline.
The Penguins drafted Blomqvist in the second round (54th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Currently, Blomqvist is with the WBS Penguins on an amateur tryout agreement that will take him to the end of the AHL season.
Blomqvist played one game with the WBS Penguins last season and gave up two goals in a loss.
