Vinnie Hinostroza is the early leader to start the season on the Pittsburgh Penguins first line.
The 2023-24 NHL season is upon us and the Pittsburgh Penguins have opened their training camp which is sure to be full of storylines and surprises.
It didn’t take long for the first surprise to emerge when the Penguins hit the ice.
Following a few drills, lines began to be formed and the first line featured a new face next to Sidney Crosby.
Newcomer Vinnie Hinostroza was suited up alongside Crosby and Bryan Rust as drills and a scrimmage kicked off Penguins’ camp.
With Jake Guetnzel injured and unable to return until the regular season is underway, there is a hole open on the first line.
One of the biggest storylines to follow this camp revolves around who will fill in for Guentzel while he is away.
The Penguins have plenty of options including Alex Nylander, Andreas Johnsson, and Reilly Smith, but Hinostroza seems to be the early leader.
Obviously, a lot can change over the course of the next few weeks, but it’s possible Crosby starts the season with a new name by his side.
Rickard Rakell started training camp on a separate team from either Crosby or Evgeni Malkin.
