Peter Abbandonato will join the Pittsburgh Penguins at training camp on a professional tryout contract.

Peter Abbandonato will join the Pittsburgh Penguins at training camp on a professional tryout contract.

NHL training camps are opening up across North America and the Pittsburgh Penguins are set to kick off the 2023-24 season.

Before the puck can drop on the regular season, or even on the preseason, the Penguins will have to slim their massive list of names set to attend training camp.

Among those coming to training camp are five players on a professional tryout contract.

Libor Hajek, Mark Pysyk, Austin Wagner, and Colin White are all names that have been heard before, but new to the list of PTOs is forward Peter Abbandonato.

No big statement or release was made about Abbandonato, but when the Penguins unveiled their training camp roster, the 25-year-old was at the top of the list.

During the 2022-23 season, Abbandonato played 66 games with the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate and recorded 11 and 46 total points.

This past offseason, however, Abbandonato signed a contract with the Chicago Wolves, who have cut their affiliation with any NHL team.

Abbandonato joining the Penguins was first reported by Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey.

Abbandonato has never played a game at the NHL level.
