Former goalie and insider believes that Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry is one of the best Canadian netminders.
Tristan Jarry struggled between the pipes for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, but among Canadian born goalies, he is still seen as one of the best.
According to TSN’s Martin Biron, the Penguins starting netminder is among the best Canada has to offer.
The video posted to TSN’s YouTube page loses audio just seconds in, so it’s impossible to tell what Biron said, but Jarry was one of the few goalies to receive a highlight package.
When it comes to goalies in the NHL, the best ones are no longer from the Great White North.
Russia has arguably the three best in the NHL right now, and the United States have a few of their own.
For Canada, their leaders in goal have either aged out or fallen off the map as true top names.
Marc-Andre Fleury is still good but close to the end of the road; Jordan Binnington and Carter Hart used to be the go-to’s, but they don’t bring the same compete level to the table that they used to.
This is where Jarry steps in, along with a small handful of others, that he can easily prove to be better than.
In his 206-game NHL career, Jarry has posted a 117-60-20 record with 13 shutouts and a .914 save percentage.
Other names from Biron included Darcy Kuemper, Logan Thompson, and youngster Devon Levi.
Jarry has an important season ahead of him and if that is his competition for best Canadian goalie, he has a great chance of making a name for himself.
