The Pittsburgh Penguins power play can be deafly, but they need to quickly find their legs.
We know everyone needs to be patient, we know it’s going to be a work in progress, and we know it’ll take some time, but at some point the Pittsburgh Penguins need to figure out the power play.
Not only do they need to figure it out, but the Penguins need to figure it out quickly with the regular season just a week away.
Head coach Mike Sullivan stated that he was going to try Erik Karlsson on the top power play with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and most notably Kris Letang.
In a pair of preseason games and a couple of practices, this group has yet to look in sync.
Everyone from the players to Sullivan have preached that with opportunities things should get smoother, but plenty of chances have already gone un-capitalized.
When the Penguins took on the Ottawa Senators in the Nova Scotia Showdown, they failed to convert on six power play chances.
One of those man advantages ran for four minutes on a double minor.
Maybe it’s still too early to draw conclusions, but the expectations are sky high for the Penguins and their power play.
Karlsson’s offensive ability can bring so much to the table, but it just needs to all mold together properly.
With a week left until puck drop on the regular season, expect this top unit to get more reps, but if things don’t start clicking, Sullivan is going to need a short leash.
