Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins have not yet addressed their goalie situation.
Kyle Dubas has been president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins for almost three weeks now, and no decisions have been made regarding the on-ice personnel.
While front office executives have been let go and Jason Spezza has been brought in, there are still decisions to be made regarding the Penguins players.
One of the first decisions Dubas will have to make is what to do with goalie Tristan Jarry, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of July.
Early projections give Jarry a new contract that lasts four seasons at $4.8 million per year; other reports indicated that during the season, Jarry expected something with more term.
While those are just projections and early talks with the old regime, talks haven’t picked up much steam between Dubas and Jarry’s camp.
According to Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic, there has yet to address the Penguins’ goalie situation.
On one hand, that’s expected; Dubas isn’t even a month into his new job and there is a lot to take on at the moment that something like that can slip to the back burner.
On the other hand, free agency is creeping closer every day and if Dubas wants to keep Jarry he should start those negotiations relatively soon.
Dubas said in his opening press conference that every option is on the table when it comes to the goalie position.
The plan is to look in-house, at the free agent market, and possible trades for the best option between the pipes.
LeBrun does believe, however, that those talks with Jarry should begin in the very near future.
