The Pittsburgh Penguins are taking a big gamble with Tristan Jarry, and it'll be up to him to make it work.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are taking a big gamble with Tristan Jarry, and it'll be up to him to make it work.

Heading into the offseason, it seemed like a near unanimous decision that goalie Tristan Jarry would not return to the Pittsburgh Penguins and he would find a new home via free agency.

Just a few hours into the window opening, the Penguins shocked many by re-signing Jarry; and not just short term, but for five years at $5.375 million annually.

Taking on a modified no-move clause, it is a big gamble for Kyle Dubas to take in his first year with the team, but it’s one that has the ability to pay off in tremendous fashion.

No one has ever doubted Jarry’s playing ability; he’s a skilled goalie that caught a few looks during his few hours on the open market.

Jarry decided to remain with the Penguins, stating he couldn’t see himself playing anywhere else and calls Pittsburgh his home.

Dubas going out of his way to visit Jarry and his wife in his hometown of Edmonton also played a huge role in the All-Star goalie’s decision.

Jarry said that Dubas taking that kind of time to travel showed a lot about how he sees the future of the team and how they plan to build a better organization right away.

The 2022-23 season may have been filled with injuries, but it was also a massive letdown for Jarry.

The frustration was real for Jarry and he knows the standards were not being met.

Jarry is focused on being better for the Penguins, but the price tag he is clocking in with will add a ton of pressure.

All eyes will be on Jarry as he is arguably the most divisive player on the team; he’s an outstanding goalie, but needs to find his All-Star form again to give the Penguins a real chance.

The Penguins’ bottom-six forward group should be much more of a help defensively, and the blue line looks to take another step forward, so Jarry’s job should be easier, but he will still be the center of criticism.

All Jarry needs to do in order to get back on the fan base’s good side is prove he can remain healthy and give the push the Penguins need to once again reach the postseason.
