The Pittsburgh Penguins' bottom-six forward group has taken a massive stride under Kyle Dubas.

The Pittsburgh Penguins' bottom-six forward group has taken a massive stride under Kyle Dubas.

When Kyle Dubas was hired as president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins, he noted his plan was to build a team that can win now and still have success in the future.

While any incoming front office executive on most teams would have a similar game plan, Dubas is already executing on of the smaller details with the Penguins.

Dubas stated that a big way the team can get better for the 2023-24 season is by rebuilding at the depth forward positions.

The Penguins struggled to score on a regular basis and was a mess defensively in 2022-23, and Dubas stepped in looking for a complete overhaul.

Since the beginning of free agency, Dubas hasn’t rested in adding to the forward depth; eight forwards have been signed with the intention of bolstering the bottom two forward lines.

Lars Eller, Matt Nieto, Noel Acciari, Andreas Johnsson, Marc Johnstone, Vinnie Hinostroza, Joona Koppanen, and the return of Radim Zohonra have all been added to the Penguins’ depth chart.

Eller, Nieto, and Acciari are three players with no doubt spots in the NHL lineup, but everyone else has a shot at being solid injury replacement.

While other anchors are still floating around in the bottom six, like Mikael Granlund, and Jeff Carter, the forwards have definitely taken a step in the right direction.

Dubas doesn’t seem to be done either; he’s still looking to build the Penguins in his image and so far, he’s done a great job of adding to one particular area.
