Penguins vs. Bruins: Potential First Round Preview
The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the league leading Boston Bruins in what could be a glimpse into the first round of the playoffs.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are set for an afternoon showdown against the best team in the league. The Boston Bruins won both previous matchups against the Penguins, and are looking for a season sweep over their black and gold counterparts. The Pens continue to be in desperation mode as they fight for a postseason position. Here's what to watch for in the third installment of Penguins vs Bruins this season.
1. Jake Guentzel on Fire
The Penguins are getting the best out of Jake Guentzel down the stretch. The best pure scorer on the team has stepped it up at the perfect time. Guentzel has four goals in his last five games, and six points over that same span. What's even more impressive about his goals? Each of his last four have come on the power play. So not only is Guentzel on fire, he's single handedly lifting the Penguins' power play as well. The Penguins will need another goal from their sniper in this difficult matchup against the Bruins.
2. Can Tristan Jarry Do it Again?
Tristan Jarry played an outstanding game in the Penguins victory over the Nashville Predators, and registered his second shutout of the season as a result. Jarry is 22-10-6 on the year and has won back-to-back starts. The Penguins are hopeful and desperate for Jarry to return to his all-star form, and he'll face his most challenging test against the juggernaut Bruins offense. Will Jarry rise to the occasion or experience a let down performance?
3. Healthy Serving of Pasta
The Penguins will have a tough time containing the Bruins. The 58-win team looks nearly unbeatable, and that's highlighted by the superstar performance of David Pastrnak. 'Pasta' is having a career year, eclipsing the 50 goal mark and approaching the century mark for points. If the Penguins want to squeeze two points out of the Bruins, they'll need to keep Pastrnak off the score sheet.
