The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Ottawa Senators in Sidney Crosby’s home province.
The Pittsburgh Penguins press on through the preseason with a special stop for a neutral-site game in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Penguins are set to take on the Ottawa Senators in what is a homecoming game for team captain Sidney Crosby. Here’s what to watch for in tonight’s matchup.
1. Sid’s Spotlight
The Penguin’s captain is admired throughout the hockey world, but the reception should be on a different level for this preseason game. The Nova Scotian native will surely relish the chance to play near his hometown.
The captain is also looking to continue finding his game and improve his chemistry with linemate Rickard Rakell. The fans are in for a treat tonight.
2.) Second Line Winger
While Jake Guentzel recovers from injury, the team has a hole on the second line wing. Alex Nylander received a shot and Radim Zohorna skated with the line in practice, bur there is no clear candidate to start the season there. Perhaps this game can create some distance for one of the forwards and they can stick on the second line.
3.) Is Ryan Shea a Candidate For Defensive Group?
Defender Ryan Shea skated alongside P.O. Joseph in practice this week and looks to get a chance to crack the top six. If he does play in this game, head coach Mike Sullivan will be evaluating his play closely. Shea brings a smooth skating style that fits Sully’s style, and if his defensive skillset holds up, he may earn a larger role with the NHL club.
