Tristan Jarry impressed behind the Pittsburgh Penguins in his return to action.

Tristan Jarry impressed behind the Pittsburgh Penguins in his return to action.

After a season full of injuries and inconsistencies, Tristan Jarry looks healthier and more confident than ever to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins as their starting goalie.

Jarry returned to the Penguins net in a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres and it was clear that he is set for a much better season.

In his first game back in action, Jarry only allowed one goal on 25 shots; the tally was a mini break from Tage Thompson which is nearly impossible to stop at times.

Following the contest, head coach Mike Sullivan noted that Jarry looks healthy and stronger than he did last year.

“That was a struggle for him last year,” Sullivan said. “We chased it for the most part, most of the year. I know that was a tough challenge for all of us, and it was the hardest on him.”

Jarry had high expectations heading into the 2022-23 season after coming off of a career year in 2021-22, but injuries plagued his season.

For almost the entire season, Jarry dealt with some sort of ailment that forced him out of the lineup on a number of nights.

If he was in, he wasn’t feeling 100% and holding the Penguins back.

From everyone’s perspective, this year should be different for Jarry; he’s healthy, has a new contract, and has a chip on his shoulder.

“I thought he had a solid effort tonight,” Sullivan said. “He looks strong in the net, he looks healthy, he's in good shape. We're hoping we can continue to just give him more reps that he can build on.”

The ceiling will once again be sky high for Jarry, but there shouldn’t be as many issues in reaching those expectations this time around.
