Currently riding a three-game losing streak, the Pittsburgh Penguins will have to learn from their mistakes.
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins return home after a tough trip to New York riding a three game losing streak and a playoff position that hangs in the balance.
Heading into the week, the Penguins were on a solid 7-2-1 run and threatening to catch the New York Rangers in the standings.
Three losses later and things look a little bleaker; fans aren’t happy, the coaches are doing all they can, and the players are hopeful to turn things around.
According to captain Sidney Crosby, it’s up to the Penguins to learn from their stretch and come out a better team on the other side.
“You got to turn the page,” Crosby said. “Whether you win the game, or lose the game, you have to learn from it. It’s a tough lesson.”
Head coach Mike Sullivan called the 6-0 loss to the Rangers ‘humbling,’ and urged his team to have a short memory.
While the whole team has preached their focus on the next battle, there is still an importance to taking what was learned from the previous difficulties.
“Those aren’t fun games to be a part of but you got to move on,” Crosby said. “We know the importance of every game from here on in. We just got to find a way to put full 60 together to give ourselves a chance.”
There are 13 games left in the Penguins regular season and every game is essentially a playoff game for them.
“We're playing with our backs against the wall,” Sullivan said after the loss to the Rangers. “We've got an opportunity to solidify a playoff spot. That's what we're trying to do. We're trying to keep our eye on the ball right in front of us.”
With 26 points up for grabs down the stretch, the Penguins will need to grab as many as possible and hopefully fend off other bubble teams as much as possible.
