The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking no further than the game right in front of them.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are entering their second set of back-to-back contests of the season and hoping for a similar outcome as the first.
In the first week of the season, the Penguins had a back-to-back against the Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames; the Penguins took victories in both games.
This time around, they face off against the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights.
While it’s crucial to get as many points as possible in these situations, the Penguins are looking no further than their next opponent, the Hurricanes.
A lot might change within the lineup with the possible returns of Alex Nedeljkovic and John Ludvig against the Golden Knights, but the Penguins will cross that bridge after they leave Carolina.
When asked if Nedeljkovic will return to the lineup against Vegas, Mike Sullivan stated where the Penguins are looking.
“We’re focused on today.”
Reilly Smith is a former Golden Knight and just spent some time with his former teammates at the White House as part of their Stanley Cup celebration.
Players often bring a little extra energy against their former teams, but Smith has his sights on the Hurricanes first and foremost.
“My mind right now is against Carolina,” Smith said. “After we get through this one, then we’ll focus on the next one.”
The season hasn’t gone exactly swimmingly for the Penguins, just yet, as they hold a 8-7-0 record and are sitting on the outside of the playoff hunt.
Picking up some huge standings points over the next 48 hours will go a long way to cementing their spot up in the rankings.
