Owen Pickering is one of the top prospects at the 2024 Pittsburgh Penguins Development Camp. What's he doing to take the next step in his professional career?

Wednesday is the final day of the 2024 Pittsburgh Penguins Development Camp.
Among the top players at the event is former first-round pick Owen Pickering, who the team selected 21st overall at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
During his draft-eligible season, Pickering skated with the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL, where the defenseman had 33 points in 62 games.
He would become captain of the Broncos the following season, putting up 45 points in 61 games and getting a shot in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL, dressing for eight games.
At 18, Pickering didn't score any points in his first tour in the AHL, so he returned to be captain of the Broncos in 2023-24, scoring 46 points in 59 games.
Now he's in development camp and pushing to become a regular in Wilkes-Barre. Standing 6-foot-5, Pickering is currently listed at 185 pounds, but working with a dietitian, he's pushing close to and staying around 200 pounds.
Despite powering through some injuries recently, Pickering is healthy and ready for his chance with the baby Penguins in the fall.
Pittsburgh's management is excited for him to take the next step and can't wait to see what he will do.
