Multiple Penguins Defensemen Reach Career Milestones

Two Pittsburgh Penguins defenders reached milestones in their recent loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins may have lost their most recent game to the Buffalo Sabres, but a pair of blue liners reached some personal milestones.

Not only was it a pair of Penguins’ defensemen reaching the achievements, but they’re both native of Sweden as Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson are in the spotlight.

In what has already been a big year for both players, Karlsson and Pettersson continued to make it special.

Karlsson assisted on the Penguins lone goal against the Sabres and that pushed him past Hall of Famer and Swedish hockey legend Borje Salming in career points.

Now with 788 career points, Karlsson sits second all-time in points by a Swedish-born defender.

Karlsson is behind only Nicklas Lidstrom who recorded 1,142 points in his 20-year NHL career.

In 958 career games, Karlsson has notched 184 goals and 604 assists for his 788 total points which is also good for 11^th all-time for Swedish point scoring.

For Pettersson, his milestone is based around longevity as the 27-year-old appeared in his 400^th career game.

Of those 400 games, 351 have come in Pittsburgh with 49 on the Anaheim Ducks before the Penguins acquired him in 2018-19.

In his 400 career games, Pettersson has grown into one of the better defensive defensemen in the NHL and a top pairing guy in Pittsburgh.

The Penguins were hopeful for a better outcome against the Sabres, but these are a pair of well-deserved milestones.
