The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins has a chance to make history with one more 100-point season.

The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins has a chance to make history with one more 100-point season.

It’s not a fun topic to discuss, but soon enough, the Pittsburgh Penguins will have to play hockey without Sidney Crosby.

Now as a 36-year-old, the Penguins captain is about to enter what could be his final season with complete dominance in the league.

Crosby definitely won’t hang up the skates after the 2023-24 season, but this could be his last great chance at another 100-point season.

Through the first 18 years of Crosby’s career, he has already recorded six 100-point seasons, capping out at 120 in 2006-07.

Only one other time has he reached the 90-point threshold and that was this past year in 2022-23.

The fact that Crosby, at the age of 35, got to 93 points and the team around him wasn’t outstanding lends to the idea that he could legitimately eclipse 100 again.

With Erik Karlsson on board for added offense, Jake Guentzel hungry for a vastly improved season, and an obvious chemistry with Rickard Rakell, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

If Crosby can hit the century mark, he would also add to the NHL history books.

Only two other players have reached 100 points after turning 36-years-old; Joe Sakic in 2006-07 put up 100 at 37-years-old, and Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe at the age of 41 scored 103 points.

For what it’s worth, Crosby’s 93 points as a 35-year-old is the fifth highest ever at that age.

Crosby will be hungry to win. So will the rest of his Penguins teammates.

It won’t be easy, but there is a real chance that Crosby, for likely the final time in his career, could reach the 100-point mark in a season.
