Penguins’ Top-Six Forward Among Best in NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins' top six were ranked one of the best groups in the league.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby relates to Chicago Blackhawks rookie phenom Connor Bedard and having high expectations at a young age.

In a recent report released by The Hockey News, the Pittsburgh Penguins' top-six forwards were ranked fourth best in the NHL. Despite the team missing the playoffs and returning five out of six players on their top lines, the Penguins have maintained their elite reputation around the league.

Placed just above the upstart Ottawa Senators and below the New Jersey Devils, the Pens are still continuing to boast one of the best offensive lineups in the entire NHL.

Filling out the remainder of the list were a pair of Canadian teams in the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers.

The Penguins are going into the 2023-24 season with a mountain of roster and lineup changes, but a majority of them have come form outside the top-six forwards.

One thing that has remained is the unmatched talent and consistent production at the top of their lineup.

Leading the charge once again are captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as the Penguins' number one and two centers. Flanked by Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and newcomer Reilly Smith their top-six forwards are certain to remain elite in 2023-24.

Guentzel may be injured to start the season, but he is already making great progress towards a return. In his absence, the Penguins have utilized a few different options.

No matter who the Penguins slot in to start the year, they should still be one of the most formidable top-sixes in the NHL.
