The Pittsburgh Penguins road struggles are reaching historic levels.
For the second weekend in a row, the Pittsburgh Penguins watched a multi-goal lead vanish in the third period and turn into a loss. Their collapse against the Columbus Blue Jackets added a new chapter to the Penguins rough year.
The Penguins last road win was their overtime victory against the Vancouver Canucks in late February. Since then, the Penguins have gone winless in nine straight road matchups, a stretch now tied for the longest road winless streak of the Sidney Crosby era.
The only other time Crosby's Penguins have gone this long without a road win was the 2005-06 season when they lost nine straight between January 6th and February 6th. That stretch kicked off with a 6-4 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers, a team that hasn't existed since 2011.
The Penguins face two massive tests to prevent further solidifying themselves in franchise record books, visiting the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils to start this week.
The last victory for the Penguins at Madison Square Garden was their double overtime thriller in Game 1 of the 2022 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. They have lost their last four matchups against the Rangers by a combined score of 18-6.
Meanwhile, the Devils will await the Penguins, having defeated them in seven straight matchups dating back to February 2022.
This Penguins season seems destined for a merciful ending in a few weeks, but not before they potentially solidify themselves on the wrong side of the history books.
