The Pittsburgh Penguins will look a little different when they return to the ice against the Winnipeg Jets.
Following their extended break, the Pittsburgh Penguins return to action against the Winnipeg Jets at PPG Paints Arena. That matchup will begin a slow ramp-up for the Penguins, leading into a busy March and April to close the season.
As the Penguins emerge from the dog days of the NHL calendar in search of a playoff spot, they will be joined by a few fresh faces. Reilly Smith and John Ludvig are considered game-time decisions, both missing extended time due to upper-body injuries.
The Penguins are hopeful that Smith's absence can re-energize the veteran winger, who had two goals in his last 30 games before his injury. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan had Smith practicing on the second forward line with Evgeni Malkin and Drew O'Connor during practice the past two days.
Another new face is that of Jesse Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi has been with the Penguins organization since December on a tryout basis but officially signed with the team over the weekend.
Puljujarvi skated with the Penguins' third line with Lars Eller and Rickard Rakell in practice and is on track to make his team debut against the Jets. It will be his first taste of NHL action since May 7th of last year when he was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.
