Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports - Sharks Need Pending UFA To Pick Up Game For Trade Value

Alexander Barabanov has been a productive winger for the San Jose Sharks but has struggled this season.

While struggling with injuries and overall consistency, the 29-year-old winger hasn't been the player he was from last year. Last season, Barabanov had 47 points in 65 games. In 16 games this season, he has one goal and four assists.

"He's had a tough go," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "[The] finger. [The] flu. Probably a night he'd like to forget [against the Kings]."

Barabanov is a pending UFA with a $2.5 million cap hit and a 10-team no-trade list. His name has surfaced in trade rumors this season.

"Of course, I want to stay here. My two babies were born here. I like the group here," Barabanov said during training camp. "But it's a business. We'll see what happens."

San Jose needs more draft capital. GM Mike Grier will need the winger to pick up his game either to sign him to an extension or to have a high trade value.

As a whole, Quinn has wanted more from his team during its seven-game losing streak.

"Let's get back to work," Quinn said. "As a player, you need to play better for us. That's really all it comes down to."

The former Toronto Maple Leaf winger's history of success in recent seasons will likely keep his trade value higher come the trade deadline, but if the Sharks are to maximize his value, he needs to up his production.

Players like Logan Couture and Nico Sturm are getting closer to returning; it will be interesting to see where Barabanov is in the San Jose Sharks lineup.
