Brett Holmes-USA TODAY Sports - Three Takeaways From Sharks 6-3 Win Over Flames

The San Jose Sharks had one of their most potent offensive attacks last night in their 6-3 win over the Calgary Flames.

It was the third time this season San Jose scored six goals. First came against the New Jersey Devils and then against the Detroit Red Wings.

Here are three takeaways from last night's victory:

    1. Filip Zadina had a GAME

Filip Zadina exploded offensively last night with two goals and two assists. The offense is excellent, but it's the way he created offense that makes it even more rewarding.

On his first assist to Mikael Granlund, Zadina stole the puck on the forecheck and then showed great patience to find the pass.

"The thing about Zadina is he works his ass off night after night. You're always going to get an honest effort from him, and he puts an awful lot of pressure on himself," Sharks coach David Quinn said postgame. "He cares so much and wants to do so well, and sometimes that gets in his way. I think he's played a little bit more relaxed lately. It's nice to see him get rewarded statistically."

Zadina's patience was again displayed with a deft saucer pass to Justin Bailey.

His pressure on the forecheck once again forced the Flames into a turnover.

    2. Sharks Goaltending Tadem Rivals Top Of League

Mackenzie Blackwood and Kaapo Kahkonen have given the Sharks a chance to win basically every game. Yes, there have been a few duds here and there, but they have both been on their head for the last month and a half.

Blackwood stopped 31 shots last night, including some high-danger shots.

Blackwood and Kahkonen combined to make 69 saves on 73 shots in the last two games. Kahkonen's high-danger save % is in the top five of the NHL. Without these two, the Sharks could be in an even worse position they are already in.

    3. The Penalty Kill Is Stepping Up

The Sharks' PK went five for five last night and was a big reason they could stay in the game.

"It gave us a chance to kind of hang in the game. They get up one nothing and get some powerplays to extend the lead," Quinn said. "Our penalty kill was good. It was really good in that first period. It could have been worse. We settled down, and [I] thought we got better and better as a game went on."

The Sharks are out of last place when it comes to their penalty kill percentage. They now sit in 30th with a 74.1% PK.

The Sharks take on a five-game homestand starting Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
