Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports - Ty Emberson is Gaining Sharks Trust

Although he hasn't been in the lineup full-time, San Jose Sharks defenseman Ty Emberson is gaining the trust of his coaches.

Emberson will get back in the lineup tonight for the first time since Nov. 7 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Kyle Burroughs will be a healthy scratch.

Burroughs had been running the Sharks' second powerplay unit, but in practice yesterday, Emberson was the QB of the second unit.

"[I am] working hard to get back in the lineup," Emberson said yesterday. "It takes some trust to put someone on the powerplay, so I'm excited for the chance. I just gotta go out there and try to play my game."

In his seven games, Emberson is averaging 15:56 toi. He is often out there in critical situations as well. He has been seen as part of the second penalty-killing unit.

Emberson was claimed just before the regular season from the New York Rangers. He has referenced multiple times that the Rangers back-end was very crowded and how that may have led him to San Jose.

"I didn't really have any expectations coming out here," Emberson said. "I think I was just trying to show up, make the team better every day, and see where it takes me."

Sharks head coach David Quinn wanted to get different looks on the team's powerplay. With Emberson, he was happy with what he saw.

"I thought he's doing a good job in zone," Quinn explained. "I think from a breakout standpoint, that unit had to be a little bit better, but I thought overall pretty good job."

Emberson's confidence grows every time he is deployed in a critical situation.

"Obviously, it's tough to come in a lineup, but when I do play, there's times where I go in some key situations," Emberson said. "That definitely builds confidence."

The Sharks take on the Florida Panthers tonight, and Emberson has a chance to make his spot in the lineup more permanent.
