Led by many of their young players, the San Jose Sharks got their first win of the season last night after defeating the New York Rangers in overtime by a final score of 6-5 in overtime.

Last year's first overall pick Macklin Celebrini was the lead contributor with five points, including his first hat-trick of the season. The Sharks 2023 fourth overall selection, Will Smith recorded two goals and two assists, which tied the highest single game point performance of his short career. Michael Misa also chipped in with one assist.

Despite the Sharks lousy 1-4-2 record, their young talent is producing and that's what matters. They're still in the midst of a rebuild and aren't expected to contend this year.

Celebrini and Smith, who play alongside each other on the first line and top powerplay unit, have combined for 18 points through seven games. The team's record sure  doesn't reflect their talent. Expect them to continue to build chemistry and cement themselves as two cornerstone pieces in San Jose.

As for Misa, he's a rookie playing on the third line, so it's unlikely he reaches his full potential this season. However, he finished as the top scorer in the CHL last season and won OHL MVP. He was arguably the best pure scorer in the 2025 draft class and is sure to continue to progress as the season goes on, even if it's not at the same level as Celebrini and Smith.

San Jose may finish at the bottom of the Western Conference once again, but expect their young talent to shine as the season progresses.
