The Sharks have a promising pool of young talent, with defenceman Sam Dickinson being ranked the organization's second best prospect. He was held without a point through his first nine career games, until tonight.
With just over three minutes remaining in the third period, the Sharks were down 2-1 to the Detroit Red Wings, and in need of someone to step up and tie the game.
When a battle for the puck ensued in Detroit's end, Sharks forward Patrick Giles came up with it and got it back to Will Smith. With Tyler Toffoli open on the other side of the next, Smith attempted to pass it across. However, his pass was tipped by red Wings defenceman Travis Hamonic and ended up behind the net.
Smith picked up the puck and centered it to Dickinson, who sniped it past Cam Talbot to tie the game.
Despite the momentum shifting goal, Detroit came out on top with a 3-2 victory, which was decided in a shootout.
Through his first 10 career games, Dickinson has a goal, no assists and a -4 rating, but has shown promise in his development and projects to continue to improve as the season goes on.Nov 3, 2025
San Jose SharksLed by many of their young players, the San Jose Sharks got their first win of the season last night after defeating the New York Rangers in overtime by a final score of 6-5 in overtime.
Last year's first overall pick Macklin Celebrini was the lead contributor with five points, including his first hat-trick of the season. The Sharks 2023 fourth overall selection, Will Smith recorded two goals and two assists, which tied the highest single game point performance of his short career. Michael Misa also chipped in with one assist.
Despite the Sharks lousy 1-4-2 record, their young talent is producing and that's what matters. They're still in the midst of a rebuild and aren't expected to contend this year.
Celebrini and Smith, who play alongside each other on the first line and top powerplay unit, have combined for 18 points through seven games. The team's record sure doesn't reflect their talent. Expect them to continue to build chemistry and cement themselves as two cornerstone pieces in San Jose.
As for Misa, he's a rookie playing on the third line, so it's unlikely he reaches his full potential this season. However, he finished as the top scorer in the CHL last season and won OHL MVP. He was arguably the best pure scorer in the 2025 draft class and is sure to continue to progress as the season goes on, even if it's not at the same level as Celebrini and Smith.
San Jose may finish at the bottom of the Western Conference once again, but expect their young talent to shine as the season progresses.Oct 24, 2025
