Mikael Granlund wanted to return to his strong offensive game for the San Jose Sharks this season.

At training camp, Granlund told the media that he wasn't happy with his game last season.

"It's just one of those seasons, the whole team, it didn't go our way," Granlund said at camp.

Granlund scored just five points in 21 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He was often seen as the scapegoat for many issues, leading to the Penguins missing the postseason.

Granlund had a breakout performance against the New Jersey Devils last night. He had one goal and two assists in the Sharks 6-3 win.

"My own game overall has been way better lately," Granlund said during last night's postgame. "Obviously, getting healthy was a big factor, but as a team, we're playing well as well. That makes a big, big difference."

Granlund has been centering a line with Fabian Zetterlund on the left and Anthony Duclair on the right. Duclair had a two-goal night, with Granlund getting the primary assist on both goals.

"[I'm] getting used to all the linemates and teammates," Granlund said. "We can be a little bit predictable out there."

Being on the same page as your linemates and teammates is huge. To be successful as a unit, each player on the ice needs to know what every player's tendencies are.

Granlund had an unreal saucer pass to Duclair for his first assist.

"I was planning to shoot it," Granlund explained. "Then I saw him out there. Really good shot by him. It's just one of those things that is my strength, trying to make good passes."

Granlund has nine points in his last nine games, two goals, and seven assists. That includes his beautiful first goal of the season.

Granlund has become a focal point of this team with Logan Couture injured. The group is now getting rewarded for his strong play.
