James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports - David Quinn Faces His Good Friend Mike Sullivan

San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn and Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan are good friends.

Quinn and Sullivan were teammates at Boston University. Sullivan and Quinn have faced off as NHL coaches 15 times already, with Quinn winning 10 of the matchups.

Tonight, the two matchup with their respective teams struggling. The Penguins are supposed to be cup contenders and have a record of 3-6-0.

Regardless of the teams' records, Quinn and Sullivan gave their thoughts about what it is like to coach against each other.

"Well, we've done it a lot," Quinn said. "It was kind of funny back then when I got to New York, but it's normal now."

Sullivan was told what Quinn said to the same question and responded with Quinn's exact answer jokingly.

"It's well chronicled that we're close friends, and we were teammates in college. Our relationship dates back a long time," Sullivan said. "We talk a lot of hockey in the offseason. I have a ton of respect for him as a person and a coach and their whole staff, for that matter. I just think when the puck drops, it's another game in the NHL."

Sullivan believes Quinn is the right man to take the Sharks through the rebuild.

"He's a very good teacher. I think he has a good understanding of the game," Sullivan explained. "He's got a really good command of the x's and o's, and not only that, but he understands how to help players improve and grow and get better."

Despite the 0-9-1 start, Quinn still seems like the right man for the job.
