Quentin Musty celebrated his 18th birthday in style with a hat trick at the San Jose Sharks prospect scrimmage.
The 26th overall pick dominated right from the start. During his first shift, he showed his physicality by hitting a player to take the puck away.
Musty opened the scoring after he was sprung with a breakaway. He beat Georgi Romanov five-hole.
The puck seemed to find Musty all night, as every time he stepped on the ice, he made something happen.
"I'm doing all I can in these practices, the game, workouts, and just running around the city," Musty said after the game. "[Just going to the] rink and the hotel to kind of show them that I could be an NHL player one day."
2023 third-round pick Brandon Svoboda tipped home Team White's second goal.
Svoboda was working on deflections during the morning portion of Thursday's development camp.
2023 fourth overall pick Will Smith would slash Musty in a not-so-fun area which allowed Musty to score his second of the game on a penalty shot.
The release of Musty's shot was hidden from the netminder. It also shows his ability to adjust on the fly, as Musty had the puck roll on him before shooting.
After the game, Musty and Smith had a fun exchange about the slashing incident.
Will Smith would not be outdone as he got Team Teal on the board after a takeaway.
Backchecking with an aggressive stick check/lift was one of the first things coaches worked on with drills at San Jose Sharks development camp this week.
"When you're talking to these players, and they were able to absorb it right away, that's awesome," Director of Player Development Todd Marchant said after the game.
Team Teal would eventually tie the game up at four, and although a shootout was already planned, a tie game made the shootout mean something.
The winner of the game would be awarded the Marchment Cup, a trophy in honor of the late Bryan Marchment, who passed away one year ago yesterday.
Unsurprisingly, Musty completed his hat trick with the opening shootout goal.
Alex Young would score second for Team White before David Klee finished off the shootout. The shootout was the first to score three goals.
Ozzy Wiesblatt was asked to lift the trophy as he was the group veteran.
San Jose Barracuda head coach John McCarthy was very high on how development camp.
"I brought the roster," McCarthy said to the media. "I thought Smith did a lot of good things. You can tell that there's talent there. I thought Cameron [Lund] had a nice shot on the goal. [Kasper Halttunen] has some attributes. He is long—big body. He handles the puck well. Obviously, the shot is a threat—obviously, Musty. I thought [Filip] Bystedt had some composure through the middle. He made some nice plays that maybe didn't show up on the score sheet."
McCarthy would talk about a couple more players, but overall he was happy with many of the players' performances during the prospect scrimmage.
The Sharks will have some decisions to make when training camp comes in September, but for now, the Sharks' future looks a lot brighter than during the 2022 off-season.
