San Jose Sharks netminder James Reimer will hit free agency this off season.

San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer will test free agency.

This was thought to be the case after GM Mike Grier's comments during his exit interview.

"If I'm being honest, I would say we probably won't bring back the same goalie tandem as we had this year," Grier said back in April.

Reimer's agent, Ray Petkau, confirmed to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun on Monday

"Mike and the team there absolutely love Reims, but given where they're at, it made sense for them to let him go. But he loved his time in San Jose," Petkau said.

With this being the case, Reimer and the San Jose Sharks will break up for the second time. The Sharks had traded for Reimer in 15-16 for their run to the Stanley Cup Final.

In 2+ seasons with San Jose, Reimer had a .903 save % and 3.05 GAA. He appeared in 99 regular season games for Team Teal and started 95.

The San Jose Sharks have a relatively deep goaltending pool with Kaapo Kahkonen, Magnus Chrona, Eetu Makiniemi, and more.

Optimus Reim had a good Sharks career, but it has come time for both sides to split.
