Kaapo Kahkonen has come into the San Jose Sharks season looking like a different goalie.

He has looked calmer and quieter in the net. He had a strong preseason and has carried it to the regular season.

So far, in four games, Kahkonen has a .907 save % and a 3.16 GAA. Yes, the goals against are high, but the San Jose Sharks continually get stuck in their defensive zone.

Kahkonen has a .892 save % on high-danger shots, according to NHL EDGE. That puts him in the 91st percentile across all NHL goalies this season.

"I've felt great every game. Obviously, [in] preseason, I stopped everything," Kahkonen said. "I've seen the puck. [I'm] making saves, and sometimes you let in four, and you still feel good."

Sharks head coach David Quinn told THN that Kahkonen will start tomorrow's game against the Vancouver Canucks.

It is well-documented that Kahkonen struggled last season, but this season, the netminder has felt calmer in the crease.

"It goes both ways, right," Kahkonen said. "You can work on your structure and techniques to become calmer. Then, once you feel good, you're naturally calm in the net."

Kahkonen has worked with goalie coach Thomas Speer throughout the last two seasons, and it seems he has fully grasped what adjustments he wanted.

"Like I said, like being able to see the puck and make saves and feel it," Kahkonen said. "I think that's a big part in playing consistently."

Kahkonen will be a UFA after this season, and a strong season for him this year will boost his value for the Sharks or elsewhere.
