The Hockey News Reporters voted San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic one of the NHL's most overpaid players.

San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic received four votes as the NHL's most overpaid player by The Hockey News' preseason poll.
Vlasic comes in behind Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones, who received six votes and tied with Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin.
During the 2017 offseason, Vlasic signed an eight-year $56 million contract. During the first five years of the deal, the contract had a full no-move clause attached, with the remaining three years a modified no-trade clause.
The clause is that if requested by the San Jose Sharks, Vlasic would submit a three-team trade list.
Vlasic was still seen as one of the NHL's premier defensive defensemen at the time of the signing. He never really provided much offense throughout his career, as his career high is 39 points.
During the 2019-22 seasons, Vlasic became a massive liability on the defensive side of the puck.

However, last season, Vlasic's play seemed to stabilize and start to return to the league average.
Although he played exceptionally better, the defensive defenseman still isn't entirely worth his 7$ million cap hit.
This past offseason, Vlasic was even the talk of a potential buyout. Although steep, the money saved in the long run would possibly be crucial for the Sharks. With Erik Karlsson being traded and San Jose only retaining one million of his $11.5 million cap hit, Vlasic's cap hit isn't nearly as significant.
The defenseman won't have EK65 next to him this season, but given how young the San Jose Sharks have become, head coach David Quinn can lean on the former Olympian to be a good example on and off the ice.
