We are just 49 days away from the San Jose Sharks kicking off their season at the SAP Center against the Vegas Golden Knights.
In honour of that, let’s take a look at the players in franchise history who have worn the number 49. Only three players in Sharks history have worn it, and none were truly difference makers. So, let’s dive into who wore #49 for the Sharks.
The first player to wear it was Chad Wiseman in 2002-03, but he only appeared in four games with the Sharks and didn’t record a point. He later played in five games with the New York Rangers between the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons.
The second player to wear it was Mathieu Darche, who wore it during the 2006-07 season. That year, he only played in two games and, much like Wiseman, didn’t record a point. Darche spent nine seasons in the NHL, suiting up for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and the Sharks.
The last player to wear it was Scott Sabourin. Much like Darche and Wiseman, he only appeared in four games over two seasons and also didn’t record a point. He spent the bulk of his career with the Ottawa Senators. He also made one appearance with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020-21, but outside of that hasn’t truly broken out at the NHL level.
San Jose Sharks' Quarter Century Mount Rushmore
Last week, Bleacher Report released their version of '<a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25228837-every-nhl-teams-mount-rushmore-quarter-century">Every NHL Team's Mount Rushmore of the Quarter Century</a>,' and it had me thinking about who <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/san-jose-sharks/author/william-espy" target="_blank">William Espy</a> and I would put on the San Jose Sharks' Mount Rushmore.
